Venice Camera Club, Venice, Florida

We are a friendly, mutually supportive group whose goal is to share ideas, provide assistance and technical information to other photographers in their endeavors. Our members have varied degrees of expertise as well as varied interests which they are willing to share with all members.

Interests include bird photography, bird and bird photography, and oh yes, bird photography. We even show photographs taken by spouses (who we hate to admit may be the better photographers), and even our own Ben Franklin who takes photographs from a kite. We even have a 35 mm slide photographer (that’s a little plastic square with film in the center) and, oh yes, we manipulate every image and we’re proud of it.   If you don't like birds, come anyway. You'll find you're own support group at the Venice Camera Club ... many members, maybe the majority, enjoy showing photographs with NO birds. Here are some of the other interests members list:  Animals, Architecture, Beach, Family, Flowers, Friends, Gatherings, Kites, Landscapes, Nature, Outdoors, People, Pets, Portraits, Real Estate, Scenic, Sports, Sunsets, Travel, Vehicles, Waterfalls, and Wildlife.   Activities include weekly meetings Monday 10:00 to 12:00 AM. (The is no annual membership fee, but each week we collect $1 per person which we donate to the Audubon Society. It helps with the up-keep on their building which we use for our meetings. We also ask people to make a one-time donation of $20 to pay for our projector and any other equipment needed.)   We encourage members to bring prints to show (since the printed image is our real goal). You may also bring digital images which we project. It's a great opportunity to ask questions and share techniques. Often a question will lead to a demonstration of a particular technique in Photoshop.   When you come to the meetings, don't take anyone seriously. We're not big on critiques (unless asked for advice), but we love to give each other a hard time. If you stand a little ribbing and enjoy laughing, come join us, we have a good time together.   Occasionally we take Field Trips which encourage practice, fun and fellowship.   Many also go out to eat after the meetings ... another good opportunity to get to know the other members. You're invited.

Directions

We meet Monday's at 10 a.m. in Venice Area Audubon Society Building on Annex Road in Venice, Florida. (It's the white building behind the Anderson building - South Sarasota County's Administration/Court House building located at 4000 Tamiami Trail South, Venice, Florida). Annex Road leads to the Venice Rookery and is off US 41 (Tamiami Trail) between the Highway Patrol and South County buildings.
